As a writer and director, Agustin’s work has ranged from the uproarious to the ethereal. The Cuban born filmmaker doesn’t seem to be able to sit still; his output as a triple threat filmmaker (writer/producer/director) has been fairly prodigious over the past 15 years or so, with his credits already well into the double digits. It’s with his latest film, though, “Badge of Honor,” that Agustin may finally go from a niche filmmaker to more of a mainstream force.
Agustin directed and co-wrote (with Anthony Thorne, Kevin Barrett, and Nick Montalvo) “Badge of Honor.” Starring Martin Sheen, Mena Suvari, and Jesse Bradford, the film tells the story of what happens when a child is killed in a drug bust gone wrong. Two hard edged narcotics officers are investigated by an equally hard edged internal affairs agent named Jessica Dawson (played by Suvari). The officers’ stories don’t quite line up and it falls on Dawson to try and get to the truth. All the while, the precinct captain, Captain Richards (Sheen) is hovering in the background, seemingly protecting his own interests and not necessarily those of the public.
Agustin’s other recent credits include the Spanish language series “Gabriel,” and the 2009 romantic thriller “Falling Awake,” which tells the story of a musician’s struggles against poverty and expectations in the rough and tumble world of the Bronx.
